BEFORE you try to start your motorcycle this spring

BEFORE you try to start your motorcycle this spring

Follow these steps to avoid a bad start to your motorcycling season

  1. Check your oil level.  Inspect your tires for wear, check your tire pressure. You can lose air over a long period of time.
  2. Check nuts and bolts for proper torque. Check for proper chain tension, and spray your chain (not over zealously) with chain lube
  3. Just before you try to start the bike for the first time in months try this
    1. If you have a kick starter, kick it through a few times to loosen things up
    2. Take your spark plugs out, and give them a good cleaning with emery cloth, brush deposits off all areas EXCEPT the actual firing tip area.  When you re-install them put a drop of oil on the threads, then shoot the slightest shot of starting fluid (just a 1/4 second psst) directly into the cylinder.
    3. Then try to start your bike like you normally would.
  4. Once it is running, before you click it into gear...

** IMPORTANT**

PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN IT IS POINTED TOWARDS A SAFE DIRECTION! WHEN IT STARTS, SOMETIMES CLUTCH PLATES ARE STUCK.  YOU PULL IN THE CLUTCH AND IT IS STILL ENGAGED!

YOU WILL THEN BE PROPELLED DIRECTLY INTO ANYPLACE IT IS POINTED—GARAGE WALLS, CARS IN YOUR GARAGE, OR HEAVEN FORBID, ONCOMING TRAFFIC!

Have a blessed start to your riding season.  Let me know if I can help you with locating a motorcycle or the parts you need.
